first church sunday school
First Church’s Sunday School is alive and growing. We currently provide nursery care by trained nursery school staff. Both RoseAleta Chadwick and Kristin Cheney, our nursery care providers, have degrees in childhood education and are E.E.C. certified.
Our kindergarten through 2nd grade class is taught by Tami Silk. The 3rd – 6th grade class is taught by a rotating roster of adult members.
On the first Sunday of each month, the children and youth of the church participate in the worship service and those in grades three and up are encouraged to stay with their families for the entire service. Nursery care is provided for the young ones on those Sundays.
What will your children learn in our Sunday school? The curriculum used for all ages is the Bible Quest curriculum, which presents Bible stories to children of all ages in age appropriate ways with related art projects and other activities, also geared to their ages.
This fall, our pastor will teach a weekly Confirmation class for seventh and eighth graders in preparation for the Confirmation of their baptism and assumption of full church membership.

mission involvement
The Sunday school children are active in missions as well. This year, the missions the children and youth undertook were:
“Seeds of Hope” – a senior high mission trip to Roxbury
Heifer International, ongoing
“Adopt-a-Family” at Christmastime
Unicef Collection at Halloween
This month, the children will be visiting the Heifer International farm nearby and also will help with a supper to benefit this mission. Soon, they will begin to save their pennies in the hopes of purchasing animals for an impoverished country through Heifer International.
